Funny News: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
February 10, 2006: Enemy Territory: Quake WarsUK developer Splash Damage is a pioneer in multiplayer gaming, even if most of the thousands of online FPS players have never heard of them. These are the guys that developed the multiplayer portion of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the Activision title that was released for free a few years ago. Activision pulled a wonderful PR move in releasing this as a stand-alone game, and it's been a favorite of many FPS gamers since.
Now, Splash Damage is getting their chance to make their own multiplayer game that's not just intended to be tacked onto something else. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars combines Splash Damage's unique brand of FPS action with the sci-fi world of Quake to make something that's truly unique. The team at Splash Damage is still largely a bunch of modmakers without true retail game experience.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (PS3) FunnyGames, July 24, 2007...In terms of mechanics, the game plays like X-Men Legends, only from a third-person rather than top down perspective. In other words, the game looks good and seems like it SHOULD be fun (again, how hard is it?), but it feels like you've done this before and with a better game to boot. You control one of the Fantastic Four (for those of you who don't know, choosing between Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Girl, The Thing, or The Human Torch) at a time and can switch back and forth between characters on the fly.
...The Wii version is similar on most fronts, except it's played from a more top down perspective (making it look a lot like the X-Men legends games) with (obviously) inferior graphics to the Xbox 360 and PS3. They try to make up for this by using the motion control system, which creates the interesting paradox of a motion control button masher! Just keep waggling. Really, with the Wii controller and nunchuck the game becomes even more tedious...

When's the last time you played Space Invaders? Last time I played Space Invaders, I was at Chuck E. Cheese wearing two-tone corduroy bell-bottoms and listening to My Sharona's. Yep, it's hard to believe, but this year marks the 30th anniversary of this beloved arcade classic and Taito is celebrating by re-releasing it on the DS...
The Good: A classic title with solid gameplay amped up to 21st century standards.
The Bad: A "kitchen sink" approach to graphics that clutters the screen and is possibly seizure-inducing; punishing gamers for failing with needless repetition...
